Deputy Director, Public Information & Education
Lee County Mosquito Control District
Lehigh Acres, Florida, United States
Eric Jackson began working for the Lee County Mosquito Control District (LCMCD) in the summer of 2010 as an Education Resource Specialist. He was previously a teacher in Illinois and in the Lee County school system, serving as both a classroom teacher and curriculum specialist in South Fort Myers, and later teaching at The Sanibel School. Jackson began his work leading the District's public outreach and education initiatives in 2017.
Jackson graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and later completed the graduate program in Educational Leadership at Florida Gulf Coast University. At LCMCD, in addition to his role managing public relations and community engagement programs for the District, Jackson has served on the Education and Certification Committee for the Florida Association of Special Districts and has coordinated the American Mosquito Control Association's annual Education Day for participating schools across the country. Eric is an active member of the Rotary Club of Fort Myers and has served on the Board of Directors since 2021.
Jackson's professional interests include developing new ways to enhance the public's understanding of vector control, building partnerships with other local agencies dedicated to public service, and keeping up to date on conservation and environmental issues. An enthusiast of all things outdoors, Jackson appreciates the natural wonders of Southwest Florida and enjoys teaching others about the importance of keeping our environment and the people who live in it healthy.
Eric and his wife, Melissa, have three children at different levels in the school system: high school, middle school, and elementary. So, when not shuttling back and forth between school events and soccer practices, they enjoy spending family time paddle boarding, camping, cooking together, and hanging out with neighbors and friends.
