Dr. Russanne Low is a senior scientist at the Institute of Global Environmental Strategies, Arlington, VA. Rusty’s keen interest in investigating past and present landscapes has taken her from archeological and paleoclimate research to where she is today: following the spread of mosquito vectors of disease through the use of mobile technology. She serves as the lead scientist for NASA’s GLOBE Observer Mosquito Habitat Mapper, a citizen science tool that allows anyone, anywhere to participate in the collection, to report mosquito larvae and associated standing water habitats, important for understanding the distribution of mosquito vectors of disease. Rusty was recognized as a Grand Challenge Female Innovator in 2018 for identifying the need for a citizen science app to fight vector borne disease in low resource, low bandwidth communities, and just recently completed research as a Fulbright Fellow in Brazil. She lives in Boulder County, Colorado.
