Ryan M. Carney is an Assistant Professor of Digital Science at the University of South Florida. His background includes biology and art (BA, BA; UC Berkeley), public health and business (MPH, MBA; Yale University), and evolutionary biology (PhD, MS; Brown University). He is Principal Investigator for the NSF grant herein, "Surveillance and Control of Mosquito-Borne Diseases through Automated Species Identification and Spatiotemporal Modeling". His paleontology work brings flying dinosaurs like Archaeopteryx "back to life" using X-ray imaging, computer animation, and virtual and augmented reality. Previously, Ryan has led a statewide West Nile virus surveillance program at the California Department of Public Health, interned at Google, and fronted a punk band on Warped Tour. At USF, he has received the Outstanding Research Achievement Award, Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award, and Outstanding Faculty Award. He is a National Geographic Explorer and recipient of the Emerging Explorer Award, and his art and science have appeared in issues of National Geographic Magazine. https://www.RyanCarney.com
