Sarah Wheeler’s undergraduate education was in ecology at California Polytechnic, San Luis Obispo. Between undergraduate and graduate school, she studied the role of wild birds in the spread of West Nile virus. She went on to study overwintering mechanisms of West Nile virus as part of her PhD work at the University of California, Davis where her major professor was Dr. William Reisen. Between 2015 and 2021 Sarah worked as the Biologist at Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District where she conducted applied research on product efficacy, emerging products and techniques, and mosquito resistance. Currently, Sarah is the Laboratory Director at Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District where she directs efforts to monitor insecticide resistance levels, assessments of mosquito control efficacy, and ensures that the district’s surveillance program provides robust data to direct control efforts.
