Abstract: While very few long-term population studies on Lampyridae exist, anecdotal evidence suggests that firefly abundance is potentially decreasing worldwide for many important species. While multiple potential causes have been proposed, namely loss of habitat and light pollution, public health pesticides are often listed as a possible factor, despite the lack of research on the topic. To help bridge this knowledge gap, we conducted a literature review to evaluate if mosquito control practices could negatively impact fireflies. To further fill in gaps, we used existing research on similar insect groups to Lampyridae to determine where potential non-target risks exist.
