Abstract: To date, no studies have examined the effects of microplastic ingestion by container inhabiting mosquitoes. Here we show when Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus larvae ingest microplastics, there is resulting dysbiosis of their microbiota. Understanding the effects of microplastics on microbiota composition will be crucial for predicting and effectively mitigating the effects of microplastics exposure in mosquitoes and other insects.
