Prison Monitoring Director
Pennsylvania Prison Society
Noah Barth is the Prison Monitoring Director of the Pennsylvania Prison Society, America’s oldest human rights organization. Founded in 1787, the mission of the Pennsylvania Prison Society is to advocate for more humane prisons and a rational approach to criminal justice.
Noah oversees the work of 300 trained volunteer prison monitors who go into prisons and jails across the state to meet with individuals and help address their concerns, and he leads regular monitoring tours. Prior to coming to the Prison Society, Noah worked in higher education in prison for five years, helping women and men incarcerated in multiple states access high caliber college educations and academic resources. Prior to that, he served as the programmatic lead for the US chapter of Médecins du Monde where he established a free medical clinic for the undocumented and uninsured in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
Noah has additional experience in alternatives-to-detention and incarceration. He holds a BA in Sociology and an MS in International Development from Tulane University.
