Deputy Krysta Carpio has been with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office since April 2020. She has worked a variety of assignments which include booking, housing and working with the mental health population within the jails. Krysta has been assigned as the Jail Based Competency Treatment Program (JBCT) Security Deputy since November of 2021. Her current assignment is focused on the treatment and rehabilitation of inmates who have been deemed Incompetent to Stand Trial (IST) by the court system. Krysta works with a team that consists of a providing psychiatrist, psychologist, a mental health clinician, and a team of nursing staff. The overall goal of this program is to provide the mental health population with the tools needed to learn the courtroom process, forensic material, and basic social skills that will allow a fair trial.
Krysta has completed Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) and also works hand in hand with the Therapeutic Inmate Management Unit (TIMU) which assists in managing the mental health population at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility and the Todd Road Jail.
