Participants will learn about various issues that impact correctional staff at alarmingly high rates to include compassion fatigue, trauma, burnout, empathic strain, stress, etc. Statistics will be presented that suggest we cannot ignore issues such as higher depression rates, PTSD, suicide, and the like. Douglas and Sarpy County Jails will share renovation projects that have occurred, and how these help create an environment that incorporates trauma informed design. Participants will also learn about additional proactive strategies to help their staff.
