“Training Is Not About the Training Program!” Training activities often focus on the agency needs, training program needs, and resources and limitations, all to the exclusion of the trainee’s needs. The focus is usually on a required number of hours rather than ensuring that intended participant learning is accomplished. An effective training program places emphasis on the needs, interest, styles, and characteristics of the learner. Not all people learn in the same way and adult learners bring a wealth of experience to the table. This workshop will explore “learner centered instruction” and the various styles of learning. This session will review strategies that to ensure learners are able to get the most out of the training and instruction. This workshop is eligible for credit hours toward the Certified Correctional Trainer (CCT) program.

Explain Learner-centered instruction including its advantages to the agency
Given a specific topic, design various strategies to use to instruct learners ensuring that the learning styles of all participants are accommodated
