The licensure environment continues to evolve in the wake of the pandemic, which expedited a number of changes to the initial dental and dental hygiene licensure processes and the pursuit of increased licensure portability with the development of the dental and dental hygiene licensure compact. Members from the Coalition for Modernizing Dental Licensure (CMDL), representing more than 117 organizations including over 53 dental and dental hygiene education programs, will discuss issues critical to graduating students, residents, dental schools and programs, and describe ways to engage in advocacy efforts.

Learning Objectives:

Describe how licensure has changed in the past two years and the impact of those changes on dental and dental hygiene education and graduates.
Identify pathways to initial licensure that eliminate the patient-based, single-encounter examination requirement and describe the key elements of the dental and dental hygiene licensure compact.
Describe actionable strategies for acceptance of non-patient, initial licensure pathways and adoption of the dental and dental hygiene licensure compact to modernize dental licensure at the state and national level.
