Oral medicine is a complex specialty requiring great knowledge and mastery diagnosing pathologies in the oral cavity. Due to a wide variety of lesions with similar clinical appearance, providers with limited clinical experience (such as predoctoral dental and dental hygiene students) may improperly diagnose or even miss important lesions. Students and faculty alike would benefit from a comprehensive flow chart and digital document housing clinical, radiographic, and systemic pathologies in relation to the oral cavity. This educational session delivers a fun, interactive, and innovative system exploring differential diagnoses and treatments of oral pathologies for the general dentist and student.
Learning Objectives:
Descibe the gaps in students’ knowledge regarding the expansive fields of oral pathology.
Apply a novel, interactive approach to problem-solve a case study in oral medicine.
Identify didactic and clinical strategies to bolster dental students’ knowledge in oral medicine and pathology.
