"The most dangerous phrase in the language is ‘We’ve always done it this way’” – Grace Hopper. Purposeful change is required in dental education, otherwise we risk teaching to the past and not the future. Resistance to changes in the practice of dentistry and dental education negatively impacts dental educators’ ability to prepare future-ready oral health professionals. How we think about change, develop change initiatives, and communicate changes matter. You will learn strategies to overcome the “we’ve always done it this way” mindset and how to engage your faculty so you can believe in the possibilities of change!

Describe three significant trending changes in teaching and anticipated forms of resistance.
Identify areas of resistance to change in your organization.
Illustrate a proven approach for building a case for change, communicating changes and managing faculty’s resistance to change.
