Interprofessional education (IPE) is necessary to prepare students to collaborate with different disciplines. The COVID-19 pandemic and associated room capacity restrictions with social distancing recommendations have made it challenging to continue IPE. The use of telehealth for IPE ensures student and patient comfort and safety. Through an interactive learning format, facilitators will discuss and demonstrate how telehealth was used to continue the Interprofessional Education Team Visit program (IPTV) for 557 students from medical, dental, social work, pharmacy, and athletic training profession programs. Educational content, patient case development, telehealth modalities, logistics, and strategies to reduce implementation barriers will be discussed.
Learning Objectives:
Identify various telehealth platforms that can be used to conduct a virtual IPTV.
Describe challenges and lessons learned from transitioning to a virtual IPTV.
Discuss considerations for developing patient cases that encourage active engagement of each represented health care professions.
