Is the DAT really all that we expect as an admissions metric? Standardized tests, such as the dental admission test (DAT), have been a significant feature of health professions admissions for decades. Recent evidence is exploring the utility of these tests, especially as it relates to ensuring access and fairness in selection processes. In this session, presenters will discuss the evidence related to the DAT and debate the value of the DAT in admission practices. The session will allow participants to reflect and evaluate whether the DAT should be maintained as a critical feature of their admission model.
Learning Objectives:
Define the dental admission test (DAT) structure and purpose.
Discuss current evidence of DAT as a predictor of student performance.
Compare the advantages and disadvantages of a DAT optional admissions process.
