In this session, participants will learn what equitable admissions are, the benefits and challenges of equitable admission and ideas on how to implement equitable admissions into their program. Equitable admissions is the process of using unique experiences beyond traditional measures of academic achievement. Higher education is under pressure to meet the needs of the workforce and ensure students can meet the needs of an ever-increasing diverse population. Disparities have been recognized in healthcare and equitable admissions can help address this concern and can create a more equitable pool of candidates for dental and allied programs.
Learning Objectives:
Define equitable admissions.
Explain the benefits of equitable admissions.
Discuss the framework for retaining diverse students.
