Implementing the ADA Clinical Pain Guidelines in Dental Education Programs

This session focuses on opioid prescribing stewardship in dental education programs. The purpose is to disseminate evidence and strategies for implementing opioid stewardship in educational programs. The status of the opioid epidemic and role of dentists in managing orofacial pain will be provided. Development of the ADA Clinical Pain Guidelines (CPG) and the synthesis of the evidence for acute orofacial pain control will be presented. Strategies for implementing the CPG in predoctoral and postgraduate educational settings will be discussed. Participants will gain understanding of the evidence underlying the CPG and how to integrate them into teaching acute orofacial pain control.
