The Integrated National Board Dental Examination (INBDE) utilizes the patient box format to simplify reading and interpretation of patient scenarios by examinees while presenting concepts in the context of an actual patient. After initial announcements of the transition the INBDE, dental schools scrambled to adjust curricula and incorporate usage of the patient box question format to prepare students to integrate knowledge of basic, behavioral, and clinical sciences. In this series of short talks, you will learn how didactic and clinical faculty have utilized patient boxes in their course instruction and assessments and discuss difficulties and successes encountered throughout the journey

Learning Objectives:

Evaluate and compare tactics for incorporating patient boxes at each curricular level for their capacity to integrate basic, behavioral and clinical sciences
Identify barriers to integration of patient boxes into course instruction and assessments.
Implement strategies for incorporation of patient boxes into one’s own course or curriculum.
