Vice President for Development and Charitable Programs
American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Foundation
Paul Amundsen, MNA, CAE, CFRE, is Vice President for Development and Charitable Programs for the AAPD Foundation. The philanthropic arm of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the Foundation supports community-based initiatives providing dental care to children from families who cannot afford it. During his tenure with the AAPD Foundation, first as an independent consultant until joining staff in September 2011, it has issued nearly $8 million in grants and commitments to more than 150 clinics providing dental homes to more than 700,000 underserved children nationwide. Foundation assets during Paul’s tenure have grown from $8 million to a peak of more than $22.5 million.
Prior to joining AAPD staff, Paul maintained an independent consulting practice, working with membership associations, foundations and community organizations in business planning, reorganization and marketing. Besides honing his facilitation and planning skills, Paul credits his consulting work in helping identify priorities that best position an organization for growth — even if those suggested priorities fall outside an organization’s long-held conventional wisdom.
He holds a Master of Nonprofit Administration, with distinction, from North Park University (Chicago) and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism-News/Editorial from Northern Illinois University (DeKalb, Ill.). He also holds Certified Association Executive (CAE) and Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) credentials.
Paul and his wife, Kathy, live in north suburban Chicago. They have two grown children, plus two grandchildren. Paul’s outside interests include anything involving water, especially open water ultra marathon swimming.
