The use of telehealth increased rapidly during COVID-19, in response to the need to ensure access to care while limiting in-person encounters. Temporary telehealth and remote access policy changes resulted in new virtual care practices. Teledentistry also gained interest by necessity during the pandemic. There is support for continued availability of these expanded services among stakeholders. At the same time, there are questions and uncertainties regarding their use.

This session will present the current trends in telemedicine, virtual communication and digital health, barriers, risks and limitations, and what the future may hold.
Teledentistry and its utility, benefits, risks, limitations, barriers to use will also be discussed. Important legal, regulatory and billing considerations will be addressed. Examples of use of teledentistry along with successful teledentistry programs in pediatric dentistry will be shared.
