Outline efforts by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to address operating room access for dental surgical procedures, including coding and reimbursement changes for hospitals. Explain efforts by the AAPD, other dental organizations, the disability community and other stakeholders to advocate for implementation of the new code and to support state Medicaid engagement. Attendees will also review the changes in CDT2023 and a sneak preview of changes to CDT2024. A preview of the new AAPD Insurance Hassle Factor form will occur which allows members to report insurance issues on-line and in real time. Finally, general coding questions will be addressed.

Understand what Medicare changes are in place to support access to dental surgical procedures in hospital operating rooms.
Understand what efforts are underway to allow dental surgical procedures for Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries to be provided by dentists in ambulatory surgery centers.
Understand how to address coding and reimbursement changes and advocate for implementation of these changes by state Medicaid programs.
Understand changes that occurred in the CDT2023 and CDT2024 coding manuals.
Understand how to utilize the AAPD Insurance Hassle Factor on-line tool.
