After completing a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2008, India, Sheetal Manchanda worked as a house surgeon in Oral Surgery Department at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), India. Later, she worked as an Entrepreneur in a private clinic in India for 5 years. Subsequently, she worked as a Research Associate in the Department of Endodontology and later in the Paediatric Dentistry Department at the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Hong Kong. She is currently working on her Ph.D. research, where she was awarded a Post-Graduate Scholarship from HKU. Simultaneously, she is a peer consultant at the Center for Applied English Studies (CAES), HKU, where she received a long service award in 2021. Her research focuses on Early Childhood Caries and its prevention, involving a randomized clinical trial conducted in 25 kindergartens, evaluating the preventive effect of three different fluoride varnishes. As a part of her trial, she also performed a laboratory study evaluating the effect of different varnishes on Streptococcus mutans count through quantitative Real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction technique (qRT-PCR). She received the best presentation award for her research presentation at the Faculty Annual scientific meeting at the University of Hong Kong in 2021.
Furthermore, she has more than 10 publications in reputed Journals, and among these, a publication was awarded the Paul P. Taylor award for the best publication in 2021 in the Pediatric Dentistry Journal. Her other publication has been included in the list of Foundational articles and consensus Recommendations, 2021 for “Pulp Therapy for Primary and Young Permanent Teeth”. Additionally, she is a peer reviewer in BMC Oral Health Journal and is involved in an online course for MOOC (or Massive Open Online Course) launched on the edX platform on the topic “Dental Caries Transmission in Children” (January 2023).
