Dr. Richard Heyman is a Professor at New York University College of Dentistry, where he co-directs the Family Translational Research Group. The core of his research program is translating basic knowledge into prevention and treatment and improving the adoption of evidence-based practices. He has published over 200 papers/chapters and received over 65 federal grants/contracts on a variety of topics, from family maltreatment to couples communication to social determinants of health. He is an expert on dental fear and is currently leading an NIDCR-funded, large-scale randomized controlled trial (at 100 private practices across the U.S.) of a highly disseminable stepped-care dental fear treatment and an NIDCR-funded trial of a virtual-reality dental fear treatment.
