Hypomineralization of enamel is defined as a qualitative enamel defect caused by a disturbance during initial calcification and/or maturation The etiology remains unclear, and the variability of clinical findings related to extension, coloration of enamel, and symptoms make diagnosis and definition of the treatment plan challenging.
This case reports the treatment and follow-up of a 3-year-old child presenting with severe Deciduous Hypomineralization followed-up for 3 years until the permanent molars erupted that was also affected by Hypomineralization, with different severity. Therefore, each dental element required an individualized treatment to address both post-eruptive enamel breakdown, and symptomatology. An evidence-based conservative approach combining glass ionomer, composite, and Stainless-steel crowns was performed. The report also suggests a protocol to treat hypersensitivity in this type of defect.
