Success Rate of Pulpotomies Using Mineral Trioxide Aggregate Versus Zinc Oxide Eugenol

Purpose: The purpose of this retrospective study was to compare the success rate of pulpotomies in primary molars using Mineral trioxide Aggregate (MTA) versus Zinc Oxide Eugenol (IRM) at the Cheasapeake Health Care Dental Clinic.
Methods: The study included 100 children aged 4-8 years who have had pulpotomies with MTA and IRM with SSC as the final restoration and were treated at Chesapeake Health Care dental from 2011-2021.Data on the primary outcome (all-cause failure) and secondary outcomes (clinical or radiographic failure) were collected by accessing their electronic health record from six to twenty-four months after treatment.
Results: There is an association between the outcome and the material used. According to the chi-square test, (P=.009) showed the outcome was associated with the material used.
Conclusion: ZOE, as the only pulpotomy medicament, had a significantly lower success rate than MTA.
