There has been a surge in exploring methods and ways to expedite orthodontic tooth movement and reduce treatment duration in the last few years. Various methods have been proposed like corticotomies, micro-osteoperforations, piezocisions etc. Use of Platelet rich plasma (PRP) has been in vogue in many specialities of medicine , surgery and dentistry owing to its regenerative and healing potential. This lecture will bring under discussion the biological basis of the use of PRP in orthodontics, the preparation and the protocol for its administration and its effect on the rate of orthodontic tooth movement.
Learning Objectives:
After this lecture, attendees will be able to:
Know about different Platelet rich concentrates (PRCs) that can be used to expedite tooth movement.
Outline the specifications and method of preparation and the protocols for administering Platelet rich plasma to enhance the rate of tooth movement
Review the existing literature on the Effect of of PRCs on the rate of tooth movement and the effect of Platelet rich plasma (PRP) in particular on the rate of tooth movement as depicted in our study.
