Miniscrews have been used to correct gummy smile caused by vertical maxillary excess as an alternative to orthognathic surgery. Intrusive orthodontic movement takes time and is associated with tooth tipping and root resorption. On the other hand, MOPs have been used to shorten treatment time, but their effectiveness is still controversial in the current literature. This randomized controlled clinical trial investigated the effects of MOPs and dental changes during total maxillary intrusion with mini-screws.
Learning Objectives:
After this lecture, attendees will be able to:
Compare the rate of intrusive orthodontic movement with and without MOPs.
Evaluate 3D changes in dental inclinations and root resorption during total maxillary intrusion with mini-screws.
