Class II subdivision cases can be treated with 3-asymmetric or 4-symmetric premolar extractions, with shorter soft-tissue retraction observed when 3 premolars are extracted. Because extractions are widely performed to correct soft-tissue protrusion, the shorter soft-tissue retraction provided by the asymmetric protocol could be interpreted ambiguously: asymmetric extractions could be not able to satisfactorily correct soft-tissue protrusion, or symmetric extractions could lead to a dished-in profile. To clarify this issue, posttreatment profile attractiveness was compared between both protocols.
Learning Objectives:
After this lecture, attendees will be able to:
Demonstrate the soft-tissue long-term behavior of Class II subdivision cases treated with extractions.
Analyze the differences between Class II subdivision cases treated with symmetric and asymmetric extractions regarding profile attractiveness.
