Secondary alveolar bone grafting (SABG) in the mixed dentition is a commonly performed surgical procedure to repair maxillary alveolar clefts. Unrepaired alveolar clefts may impede normal root development therefore SABG may positively influence root development by creating a continuous alveolar ridge. This presentation will identify differences in the longitudinal root development of the permanent maxillary canine and central incisor on the cleft side versus the noncleft side in patients with cUCLP who received SABG and will also discuss acceleration of root development after SABG.
Learning Objectives:
After this lecture, attendees will be able to:
Assess differences in root development between the cleft side and the noncleft side for the permanent maxillary central incisor and canine over time in patients with cUCLP who received SABG.
Evaluate the effects of SABG on acceleration of root development of the cleft side permanent maxillary canine and central incisor.
