The keynote presentation, supported by anecdotes, will draw upon lessons learned during 40+ years of some success and multiple failures and missteps in dental education. Fortunately, many opportunities provided chances for redemption and improvement. A career that began as an assistant professor in two departments and matured logically with promotion and tenure, soon became scrambled. Having a progression of career events out of order is the worst and best of times, if you survive. Serving as a program director, graduate studies director, assistant dean, dean, chief and chair vaccinated me against many things, but not autogenic injury.
