This lecture will focus on the clinical and radiographic diagnostic principles for evaluating alveolar clefting and graft outcome. It will include selection of 2- and 3-dimensional imaging protocols, timing of acquiring diagnostic imaging before and after grafting, and implications for orthodontic treatment. Clinical examples and review of the literature will be integrated in the presentation.
Learning Objectives:
After this lecture, attendees will be able to:
Understand the importance of the orthodontist's involvement in radiographic evaluation of bony support pre- and post-alveolar bone grafting.
Select appropriate 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional radiographic techniques for alveolar cleft assessment.
Apply lecture concepts to provide improved diagnostic services for orthodontic patients with alveolar clefting.
