The maxillary central incisors are keystone teeth in smile and facial esthetics. The integrity of these teeth is compromised in some instances by a varied host of clinical conditions that include trauma, significant external apical root resorption, short root anomaly, ankylosis, and extensive periodontal bone loss. When these teeth are compromised structurally, clinicians need to consider challenging approaches that are often unconventional. These approaches include surgical, prosthodontic, and orthodontic solutions that are applied as single treatment options or in a combined manner.
Learning Objectives:
After this lecture, attendees will be able to:
Describe the diagnosis of common conditions that may affect the integrity and prognosis of the maxillary central incisors.
Illustrate surgical and non-surgical options in managing maxillary central incisors with significant compromised integrity and long-term prognosis.
Describe the diagnosis and treatment of patients with short root anomaly affecting the maxillary central incisors.
