Patients with deep bite and a flat mandibular plane can be challenging to treat and retain after treatment, particularly when the patient has a heavy bite force and/or parafunctional clenching/grinding habits. This presentation will review orthodontic case types in which masseter botox injections should be considered to facilitate treatment and diminish relapse after treatment. Ability of masseter botox injections to level the Curve of Spee, decrease bite force, diminish pain, and diminish surgical relapse will be discussed. Potential negative sequelae of masseter botox injections will also be presented.
Learning Objectives:
After this lecture, attendees will be able to:
Identify patients that could benefit from masseter botox injections.
Learn what effect botox masseter injections are likely to have on patients in terms of bite force changes, overbite changes, pain changes, and orthognathic surgical treatment success.
Understand the potential negative side effects of masseter botox injections.
