This lecture will show the different treatment effects of the TAD anchorages compared to conventional orthopedic therapy using dental anchorage. You will also see the long-term results from TAD anchored maxillary protraction using the extraoral traction with bilateral insertion of miniplates on the lateral nasal walls and the intraoral traction with miniplates on the symphysial area and the infrazygomatic crest area. The intraoral maxillary traction method also is convenient to use on young patients without any extraoral devices. We will discuss the key factors for skeletal control using TAD anchorage. You should be able to learn how to apply these treatment protocol to have effective and predictable results.
Learning Objectives:
After this lecture, attendees will be able to:
Understand the main events of TAD anchored maxillary protraction on the different parts of the cranial skeleton.
Explain the long-term effects of TAD anchored maxillary protraction compared to conventional facemask.
Recognize both the favorable results and the limitations of TAD anchored maxillary protraction.
