In this session, the speaker will present data on dentofacial changes following treatment of nasal airway obstruction. Long-term dentofacial changes in children treated by a pediatric otolaryngologist for airway obstruction either surgically (adenoidectomy) or medically (nasal decongestants) between 2006 and 2008 will be presented. Treatment recommendations for airway obstructions will be discussed in relation to age and severity.
Learning Objectives:
After this lecture, attendees will be able to:
Evaluate effects of nasal airway impairment on dentofacial morphology in relation to age and severity.
Distinguish between the effects of adenoidectomy and medical treatment on nasal patency and dentofacial development.
Recognize that early airway clearance is recommended to minimize dentofacial alterations and avoid irreversible morphologic changes.
