Dr. Powell received his DDS degree from The University of Tennessee College of Dentistry and his MS and specially ceertificate in Endodontics from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. Now retired from private practice, he continues to teach at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville and at the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in Memphis. In the AAE he has served on the Board of Directors, on The AAE Foundation Board, and has Chaired several committees. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics and a chartered member of the College of Diplomates.
Dr. Powell has written articles for State and National Jounrals and has presented numerous programs and clinics on the subjects of Endodontics, Medical Emergencies, and Dental Benefits.
Dr. Powell is a Past President of the Tennessee Dental Association and a Past Trustee of the American Dental Association. His notable award include the AAE Spririt of Service and the Presidents Award, and The University of Tennessee College of Dentistry Ourstanding Alumnus Award. He is a Fellow of The
American College of Dentist, The International College of Dentist, and The Pierre Fauchard Academy.
Dr. Powell is active in Bearden United Methodist Church, Rotary Club of Knoxville, and on the Board of The Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame. He and his wife Linda have two grown children, Rip and Christy and three grandchildren, Elisabeth, Katelyn, and Will Overton
