Dr. Annie Shrestha is a full-time assistant professor in the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto and cross appointed in the Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, University of Toronto. Dr. Shrestha obtained her dental degree from B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences Nepal in 2005, M.Sc. from National University of Singapore in 2009, and Ph.D. in Nanobiomaterials in 2013 and M.Sc. (Endodontics) in 2017 from the University of Toronto. She is a clinician scientist, teaches undergraduate and graduate dental students and maintains a day of private practice limited to Endodontics.
She maintains an independent laboratory with research focus on host immune response and biomaterials towards immune-modulation. She has worked in the field of biophotonics, nano-biomaterials and immunology. Her research focuses to expand on immunomodulation by utilizing biomaterials to achieve better therapeutics.
Dr. Shrestha has published over 30 peer-reviewed journal publications, 4 book chapters and presented over 20 research presentations in international forum. She is a recipient of several awards and honors including, the Endodontic Educator Fellowship Award from the American Association of Endodontists Foundation in 2018 and the Journal of Endodontics Publication Awards 2015. She is the recipient of the First-Ever Research Fellow from the American Association of Endodontists Foundation total of 250,000 towards her research. She currently serves as scientific advisory board in the Journal of Endodontics and Frontiers in Dentistry; member of the AAE Regenerative Endodontics Committee and Endodontics Steering Committee, Royal College of Dentists of Canada (RCDC).
