(PR116) Evaluation of Materials and Techniques for Clinical Application of Orifice Barriers After Completion of Non-Surgical Endodontic Treatment

Bacterial microleakage is one of the leading causes of failure in root canal treatment (Ray et al 1995). Proper 3D obturation of the radicular space following chemo mechanical preparation achieves an apical seal against bacterial microleakage (Aminoshariae et al 2021). Coronal seal is achieved by adequately sealing the root canal system with a definitive coronal restoration. However, there are circumstances that may prevent the coronal seal from being achieved, such as delay in restoration placement or inadequate restoration due to recurrent caries. Several materials have been utilized in orifice barrier placement and have been found to reduce coronal microleakage (Wolcott et al 1999 and Maloney et al 2005). The materials and techniques for clinical application of orifice barriers after completion of root canal treatment will be discussed in this presentation.
