(PR34) A Comparison of Bond Strengths of Bioceramic Sealers with Conventional Gutta Percha and Bioceramic-Coated Gutta Percha

The use of calcium silicate sealers with gutta-percha have demonstrated successful outcomes in the obturation of root canals. The purpose of this study was to compare the use of similar root canal sealers with conventional gutta-percha and bioceramic coated gutta-percha using the push-out bond test. 108 single-rooted anterior teeth were instrumented using rotary instruments to a size 40/.06 and obturated via the single cone technique in six different experimental groups consisting of EndoSequence BC sealer, NeoSealer Flo, and AH Plus BC sealer with Brasseler gutta-percha (conventional gutta-percha) or EndoSequence BC Points (bioceramic impregnated gutta-percha). A push-out test was conducted on all samples with the Instron testing machine to determine the bond strength in megapascals (MPa). Comparisons were made using non-parametric pairwise Wilcoxon Rank Sum Tests. The results showed that conventional gutta-percha had a statistically significant higher bond strength than that of bioceramic gutta-percha in all groups (P <0.05). In addition, EndoSequence BC sealer exhibited the highest push-out bond strength with a mean of 10.2 ± 2.8 MPa. Root canal obturation with conventional gutta-percha appears to be stronger in terms of push-out bond strength with the use of bioceramic sealers.
