(PR90) A Randomized Two-center Study of Pulpotomy in Mature Permanent Teeth Using 2 Calcium Silicate-based Materials

The purpose of this study was to compare the outcomes of pulpotomy procedures (PP) using ProRoot MTA (Dentsply Tulsa Dental, Tulsa, OK, USA) and Endocem MTA Premixed (a premixed syringeable cement) in teeth carious pulpal exposure and reversible pulpitis. This study is a randomized two-center clinical trial focusing on outcome of PP of mature permanent premolars and molars. After pulp exposure, a further 2 mm–3 mm of pulp was removed. After achieving hemostasis, the randomly chosen material was applied. A thin layer of light-curing glass ionomer liner was applied on over the material and composite restoration was placed in the same visit. The 12-month success rate and calcific bridge formation were evaluated. A chi-squared test and a logistic regression analysis were used for data analysis. A total of 90 teeth were included in this study. Four patients developed unbearable pain after the PP, and these cases were categorized as failure. 67 teeth were clinically and radiographically assessed at 12 months. This resulted in an overall recall rate of 82.7%. The overall success rate of PP was 91.2% in ProRoot, and 97.0% in Endocem. Hard tissue formation over the exposure site was evaluated by two evaluators. Hard tissue barrier was found in 14.7% for ProRoot and 30.3% for Endocem, and there was no statistical significance. The 12-month success rate and hard tissue barrier formation did not differ significantly between ProRoot PP and Endocem PP.
