(PR52) Invasive Cervical Resorption – A Look at Hygiene as a Potential Predisposing Factor and An Evaluation of Prevalence Among Surface, Quadrant, and Classification within Various Patient Demographics

Invasive cervical resorption (ICR) is classically detected as an incidental finding. The aim of this study was to further examine the prevalence of ICR among various patient demographics and assess if dental hygiene is a predisposing factor for ICR. ICR images were acquired by Veraview X800 Morita scanner obtained through CBCT under the same settings. Two independent evaluators (oral and maxillofacial radiology and endodontic residents) evaluated the presence, location, site of origin. Demographic information was collected, including dental hygiene. Statistical analysis was completed to determine the correlation of ICR with patients’ demographics. A total of 104 ICR cases from 86 patients were included in the study. 81% were over the age of 40. Results showed 79% of the total ICR lesions originated in a buccal or lingual location. Maxillary anterior teeth presented with 94%, mandibular posterior teeth 74% and mandibular anterior teeth with 95% Buccal-Lingual site of origin. Dissimilarly, maxillary posterior teeth presented with a 70% Mesial-Distal site of origin. Of the teeth identified with ICR, 44% had a history of having received hygiene. Of the ICR cases associated with a history of hygiene, anterior teeth were found to have the highest prevalence with 46% followed by 15% associated with premolars, and 22% associated with molars, respectively. In conclusion, the highest prevalence of ICR lesions were among patients over 40 years old and most frequently located on the Buccal-Lingual surfaces, except for maxillary posterior teeth. 44% had a history of being treated with ultrasonic scaler, indicating a potential predisposing correlation.
