Bobbi Jo Steele, MPH, RDH, CTTS, is the current Director of the Community Oral Health Division, Department of Dentistry and Oral Surgery at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University Huntington, West Virginia. Bobbi received her Bachelor of Science Degree from West Virginia University’s School of Dentistry, her Master of Public Health from West Virginia University's School of Public Health, and her Tobacco Treatment Specialist Certification from the Mayo Clinic’s Tobacco Treatment Center. During the past 15 years at Marshall University School of Medicine (MUSOM), she has been given the opportunity to pursue her passion for helping improve the overall health status of fellow West Virginians and all of Appalachia. Bobbi has been engaged nationally with oral health issues, serving on boards and committees and as a content expert. She is responsible for managing the oral health projects, programs, and grants for MUSOM. Bobbi Jo led the development and implementation of the first statewide school-based oral health program, the first state Oral Health Plan and the initial statewide school-aged oral health surveillance for WV and was one of the founding members of the WV Oral Health Coalition. The WV Rural Health Education Partnership awarded her the Outstanding Alumni Award of the Year and Top 25 Women in Dentistry by Advanstar Dental Media. She and her team were awarded the Smiles Across America Program Champion Award. She spends her free time outdoors, working her small Appalachian homestead, kayaking, hiking, and reading. Her three children, Nick, Joseph, and Gianna, are her proudest accomplishments.
