Dr. Joe Salamon, DDS, Dental Director, Seneca Nation Health System & Faculty Moderator of University at Buffalo AAPHD Student Chapter, was a member of the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine class of 2006. Upon graduation, he began private sector work in Hawaii until joining the Seneca Nation Health System in 2009. Since 2013 he has served the Seneca Nation as Dental Director, earning the 2013 and 2014 Indian Health Service Clinical Excellence Award. He was named Dentist of the Year in 2012 and 2015 for the Nashville Area regional office of the Indian Health Service. Dr. Salamon is an Expanded Function Dental Assistant instructor and since 2018, the faculty moderator of the University at Buffalo Student Chapter of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry. He created the University at Buffalo micro-credential course Competency in Dental Public Health, mentors student research in antibiotic stewardship, and works as the advisor to UB’s chapter of the Delta Sigma Delta international fraternity. He serves on the executive council of the Eighth District Dental Society of the New York State Dental Association as chair of the Committee for the Underserved. In 2017, Salamon co-founded the Native American Pre-Dental Gateway internship to encourage and support the application and enrollment of Native American undergraduate students.
