The oral health care system is at an inflection point with a tremendous amount of opportunity to rethink the roles of payers, providers, and patients. The concept and culture of Minimally Invasive Care is growing in popularity and has the potential to produce more equitable access and outcomes in oral health, reduce the incidence of trauma associated with care, and promote patient agency.
This past year, CareQuest Institute for Oral Health has prioritized the engagement of grassroots, BIPOC-led, community-based organizations through grantmaking and capacity building efforts. This focus has given our organization insight into the oral health care needs and advocacy interests that are most meaningful to diverse populations across the country. With these populations and partners in mind, this session will explore the critical importance of promoting non-invasive care that offers consumers innovative and responsive oral health care treatment options to consider, empowering both patients and providers.
Learning Objectives:
Identify behaviors and environmental power dynamics that influence (positively or negatively) the provider-patient relationship
Determine pathways to initiating and sustaining meaningful engagement/communication with patient/consumer communities for relationship development and trust-building.
Make connections between the stories, experiences, and needs of patients outside of the clinical environment and their oral health outcomes, specifically with the goal supporting/offering responsive solutions.
Discuss the benefits and drawbacks associated with different minimally invasive oral health care interventions with consumers to promote agency/decision-making.
