Leading dental organizations, including The American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, urge dental professionals to educate patients and recommend HPV vaccination. Dental schools provide a unique opportunity to both promote and administer the vaccine. This session describes an interprofessional partnership between a dental school and a nursing school, with support from their state oral health program, to deliver the HPV vaccine in a dental academic setting. This session will provide a detailed overview of the project implementation, lessons learned, and strategies to replicate such a collaboration. Presenters will learn the steps taken to acquire and administer the vaccine at a dental school and how to obtain access to the state’s vaccine registries. The session will also cover topics like reviewing relevant curricula, optimizing electronic health records, and maintaining stringent documentation. Finally, the presenters will describe their journey to proper storage and refrigeration of the vaccine.

Learning Objectives:

Describe interprofessional collaboration between a dental school, nursing school, and their state oral health program to implement an HPV vaccination project at a dental school.
Discuss administrative issues and lessons learned to become vaccine credentialed and to obtain access to vaccine registries.
Identify strategies to inspire and foster interprofessional collaboration that can lead to improved HPV vaccination education and referral from dental clinics.
Describe the process to order and properly store HPV vaccines in a dental school.
Analyze and explain the sustainability plan using an interdisciplinary approach.
