My name is Hala Shakir, and I have been a practicing dentist for over two decades. I completed my dental degree through the University of Baghdad, and after graduation, I immediately started serving rural communities. After practicing for a few years, I moved to the United States, equalized my dental degree, and became a licensed dentist in California. I pursued nonprofit work and focused on providing care for vulnerable populations, focusing on developmentally and medically compromised individuals. Moving to Texas, I decided to focus my career on enhancing my understanding of dental public health issues at large. Following this desire, I completed a master's in public health from Texas A&M and a residency in dental public health at UTHSCSA School of Dentistry. I am excited to use my newfound knowledge and sharpened skills to impact the oral health of my communities for the best!
