Dental Hygiene Student
UNC-CH Adams School of Dentistry
Karina Ibarra, UNC Adams School of Dentistry Dental Hygiene. At the age of 13, I worked in an agriculture factory, packaging bell peppers, squash, and eggplants. I grew up in rural Sampson County, North Carolina. A county whose ratio of dental professionals and population is disproportionate. Coming from a farmworker family, I understand the disparities this population faces. I created Farmworker Labor and Oral Salud Services (FLOSS) to educate those in the dental field on the disparities farmworkers face and to provide oral hygiene instructions and other dental services to farmworkers.
