Graduate Student
University of North Texas Health Science Center
I'm Rohit Baal Balasundaram, a doctoral student who is passionate about oral health research. I earned my Bachelors in Dental Surgery from Chennai, India, and my Masters in Public Health from the Colorado School of Public Health. Currently, I'm working under the mentorship of Dr. Nguyen (Universiry of North Texas Health Science Center) to address oral health disparities, which is one of my research interests.
My other research interests include chronic disease and oral health, as well as the impact of cannabis use on oral health. I'm particularly interested in investigating oral health disparities and identifying ways to reduce these disparities, especially among vulnerable populations.
In the past, I worked as an epidemiologist for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, where I was part of the COVID-19 task force. As an Epidemiologist, I provided subject matter expertise and contributed to epidemiological efforts for local health departments, providers, and long-term care facilities.
I am committed to making a positive impact in the field of oral health, and am excited to continue exploring new research questions and avenues for intervention as I progress in my doctoral studies.
