Description: Dental sealants are widely recognized as an evidence-based intervention that prevents or reduces the incidence of tooth decay. In 2022, the Association of State and Territorial Dental Director’s Best Practice Committee convened a workgroup consisting of dental sealant subject matter experts representing academia, professional associations, public health, and state offices of oral health to update the 2017 Best Practice Approach: School-Based Dental Sealant Programs. A best practice approach report describes a public health strategy, assesses the strength of evidence on the effectiveness of the strategy, and uses practice examples to illustrate successful and innovative implementation. This roundtable will provide an overview of the report, describe its purpose and goals, and review major sections in the report that include considerations states are encouraged to take into account when planning and implementing school-based dental sealant programs.
