Payers, Providers, State and Federal Agencies, Policy Makers and other stakeholders across the country continue to grapple with testing, assessing, and exploring the potential for value-based care and payment in oral health. Though many people agree that oral health care offers a substantial contribution to health outcomes, examples of implementing upside and downside models of risk in oral health are limited to only a few parts of the country. While clinical approaches to understanding what the potential future of the oral health care system will look like, and how it will better meet historically unmet needs, very few people are actually spending time in communities that have been left behind. In this session, CareQuest Institute and NC Child will explore how they are building a bridge between oral health system transformation and those it should better serve to understand what communities believe the “value” in value-based care means.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be re-grounded in current examples of how oral health value-based care and payment are being tested in locations across the country.
Participants will examine and understand efforts in North Carolina to define “value” from a community perspective, with a focus on engaging Medicaid beneficiaries.
Participants will engage in a dialogue around challenges and opportunities for engaging key populations in efforts related to oral health system transformation.
Participants will learn about opportunities for funding and support through CareQuest Institute to strengthen the oral health infrastructure in their state for advancing community-centered approaches to value-based care and payment.
